Colombian superstar Maluma blessed fans Thursday (July 8) with the newly released single “Sobrio,” a pop-reggaeton track that finds a heartbroken Maluma drowning his sorrows.
After releasing a handful of collaborations — including one with Reik, Manuel Turizo and Pipe Bueno — “Sobrio” is Maluma’s first official single of the year. The track drops less than two months before Maluma’s Papi Juancho U.S. tour is set to kick off Sept. 2 in Sacramento, Calif., and will wrap up Oct. 24 in Chicago.
Penned by Maluma, Édgar Barrera, Kevyn Mauricio Cruz, Alejandro Robledo, Filly Andres Lima and Lenin Yorney Palacios, “Sobrio,” which translates to sober, was released alongside a star-studded music video shot in Los Angeles by Jessy Terrero (Cinema Giants). If you’ve been trying to keep up with Maluma and Scott Disick’s Twitter feud, the video will give you context to the back-and-forth.
Here’s what to look out for in Maluma’s new video:
Cameos: Israeli fashion model Eden Fines takes center stage as Maluma’s love interest. Throughout the music video, you’ll see cameos from reality TV personality Scott Disick, Saweetie, actor and singer Quincy and Australian Victoria’s Secret model Shanina Shaik.
An explanation to the Maluma/Disick “feud”: On July 6, a Twitter war ensued between Maluma and Disick after the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star tweeted at Maluma “wtf with this guy @maluma.” The chart-topping artist quickly responded with, “What’s up with you? You want to be me so bad that you try to take what is mine?” To that, Disick replied, “@maluma I didn’t have to try that hard, get over yourself your a joke.” The “feud” turned out to be purely promo for the “Sobrio” music video, in which Disick is dating Maluma’s ex-girlfriend.
Dramatic ending: Maluma’s love interest might have gotten to the bar with Disick, but that doesn’t mean she’ll leave with him. In fact, toward the very end, Maluma is rescued by Fines in a dramatic scene that wraps up the music video. We don’t want to spoil the ending so watch for yourself below.
