Friday Dance Music Roundup: Top New Tracks This Week from Myd, Paul Kalkbrenner & Stromae, Salute & More

In this week’s dance-music roundup, a thrilling new trailer for 100 Nights of Hero, starring club luminary Charli XCX, dropped in anticipation of its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on September 6.

Beatport has launched a Global Remix Challenge for Madonna’s 1998 classic “Ray of Light” in collaboration with Rhino Entertainment, Warner Records’ LabelRadar and Madonna herself. Tied to the recently released remix album Veronica Electronica, the contest invites producers to download stems of “Ray of Light” and reinvent the track for a chance to win top-tier gear, software packages and a Madonna-signed vinyl. Submissions close on September 25.

Meanwhile, Major Lazer returns with both fresh music and fresh blood: British-Jamaican vocalist America Foster officially joins the collective, expanding it to a quartet. Their new single “Gangsta” features rising star Kybba alongside longtime collaborator Busy Signal, renowned for the 2013 anthem “Watch Out For This (Bumaye)” from Free The Universe.

Producer Laidback Luke recently collaborated with Jason Brown—grandson of the legendary James Brown—on a contemporary reimagining of the funk icon’s “Super Bad.” Released via Dim Mak Records, the track layers ’90s house grooves over the original’s raw energy. As Luke told Billboard, he initially hesitated to touch such sacred material but found the confidence to innovate under Jason Brown’s complete creative trust.

“It transports my grandfather’s legacy into tomorrow,” says Jason Brown, who brings his own DJ and production experience to the project. “That was always the goal—and I think we’ve surpassed it.”

• Myd, Mydnight

  Longtime Ed Banger affiliate Myd carves out his own sonic realm on his third studio album, Mydnight. Over thirteen tracks, he fuses euphoric synth crescendos—on songs like “Make Me Feel Alive”—with heartfelt introspection in “Be Someone New,” a soaring collaboration with Kacy Hill (credited here as Bethanie Home).

  By lending his own vocals to nearly every track—a rarity in electronic music—Myd imbues each song with a warm, organic quality. Guest spots from Carlita, Channel Tres and Calcutta add further color, creating an album that feels both celebratory and profound.

• salute, “double luxury”

  Manchester-based producer salute returns with “double luxury,” the lead single from the upcoming fabric presents compilation. Following the glittering textures of their 2024 debut True Magic, salute layers bright bell tones, soulful vocals and an irresistible house groove—previewing their set at Portola Festival in San Francisco next month.

• Paul Kalkbrenner & Stromae, “Que Ce Soit Clair”

  German techno architect Paul Kalkbrenner enlists Belgian sensation Stromae for “Que Ce Soit Clair” (“Let This Be Clear”), a crisply produced fusion of driving electronic layers and Stromae’s signature French rap. Accompanied by a surreal video from Temple Caché’s Kelzang Ravach, the track prefaces Kalkbrenner’s new album The Essence, due October 10.

• e-Dancer & DJ Minx, “Detroit”

  Techno forefather Kevin Saunderson and his son Dantiez, performing as e-Dancer, join forces with Detroit legend DJ Minx on “Detroit,” a tribute to the city’s musical pioneers. Minx’s vocals namecheck icons from Juan Atkins to Jeff Mills, while the brooding, groove-laden production invites listeners to explore the genre’s rich heritage.

• Nghtmre, Mindfull

  Nghtmre specializes in seismic bass and unrelenting energy, and his second album, Mindfull, is a powerhouse collection. Featuring the A$AP Ferg-assisted “Torch” and the Crankdat & Duke Duce collaboration “Type Sh*t,” the album also unveils new tracks like the intense “Cyanide” and the frenetic title cut.

  “After two years of refining this concept, I’m proud to present Mindfull,” says Tyler Marenyi. “It’s my most personal work, exploring the tension between information overload and mental clarity—Mind Full vs. mindful.”

• TroyBoi, “Beggin”

  TroyBoi’s signature slow-burn bass meets South Asian influences on “Beggin,” featuring Indo-Swiss vocalist BombayMami. Centered around a hypnotic bamboo flute motif, the track builds to a sultry interpolation of Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name,” previewing his upcoming Rootz EP, due September 19.
