This Week in Dance: Portola Recap, Armada’s Shoreditch Hub, Serato × Spotify and the Best New Tracks

A roundup of the week’s biggest moves in dance music: festival highlights, new industry spaces, landmark software integrations and the standout singles and albums you should hear now.

Last weekend’s Portola Festival in San Francisco dominated conversations, delivering memorable sets and moments across its inaugural run. Meanwhile, Armada Music unveiled a six-story, 7,000-square-foot creative complex in London’s Shoreditch — a multiroom facility that includes recording suites, listening rooms and event space designed for artist development and collaborative projects.

Fortnite confirmed that The Daft Punk Experience will launch on September 27, bringing 31 tracks from the duo’s catalog into the game’s immersive platform. In New York, Bye Bye Plastic — the environmental nonprofit co-founded by Blond:ish — introduced the Zero Plastic Club: NYC during Climate Week: NYC (September 21–28). The initiative aims to eliminate roughly 42 tons of single-use plastic annually from the city’s nightlife by working with venues and promoters to phase out disposable bottles, cups, wristbands and similar items.

In a major product shift for DJs, Serato announced native integration with Spotify, permitting DJs to mix directly from Spotify’s catalog in real time — an integration that has also been added to Algoriddim’s djay software. On the legal front, the operators behind Miami’s Club Space filed a countersuit against Insomniac Events, accusing the company of “predatory tactics and greed” stemming from a fractured partnership around the Miami venue Factory Town.

News from artist-side teams: Calvin Harris’ former business manager issued a public denial in response to fraud accusations. In Australia, Billboard’s August Dance Rookie of the Month Ninajirachi scored a career-best eight ARIA nominations — including album of the year and best solo artist — while Dom Dolla earned seven nods.

Other highlights: Fred announced a surprise ten-show run across ten cities to support his USB002 project, with dates announced shortly before each performance. Indira Paganotto & Nile Rodgers — “Arte Como Amante”

“Arte Como Amante” pairs Indira Paganotto’s adventurous production with Nile Rodgers’ unmistakable guitar work for a cross-genre collaboration that moves between psytrance, techno and disco-inflected funk. The track culminates with a sweeping guitar passage and showcases a genuine meeting of musical minds — its title translates as “art as a lover.”
