This Week in Dance Music: Highlights and New Releases

DJ Snake made a surprise appearance during J Balvin’s VMA set to perform their collaboration “Noventa.” In Los Angeles, a new open‑air venue called Reframe Studios Outdoors is slated to debut in November with a headline set from Solomun. Meanwhile, Kygo’s Palm Tree Crew has reached a $215 million valuation following a Series B funding round that counted WME among its backers.

Producers Seth Troxler and Bill Patrick have launched a conversational podcast titled Flirting With Friendship, recorded from Troxler’s parents’ living room in Ibiza. The hosts plan to explore the evolution of friendships and how connections shape our lives.

We also spoke with Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor about the band’s new compilation Joy In Repetition and the stories behind six of the album’s tracks.

In other news: Major Lazer announced a free Major Lazer Soundsystem performance in Las Vegas as part of a 12‑hour Twitch stream; LCD Soundystem revealed a New York City residency for November and December; and Yves Tumor said they were booed offstage after opening for Swedish House Mafia in New York City on Sept. 11.

John Summit feat. Inéz — “Crystallized”

John Summit reunites with vocalist Inéz for “Crystallized,” a high‑energy cut that nods to blog‑house aesthetics while keeping Summit’s club instincts front and center. This single follows his March collaboration “Light Years” and August’s “Is Everybody Having Fun” with Gorgon City and rhys. Summit says he leaned into electro textures for this release to recapture an era’s vibrancy with a modern polish.

Rezz — As the Pendulum Swings

Rezz’s fifth studio album, As the Pendulum Swings, presents 13 tracks that blend nostalgia with a refined, industrial‑leaning sound. Several cuts began life as earlier demos that the producer, Isabelle Rezazadeh, revisited and completed for this record. The album emphasizes slow‑tempo techno and darker sonic textures while reflecting Rezz’s artistic growth.

Nimino feat. Manta — “Better”

Nimino, Billboard’s Dance Rookie of the Month in January, delivers “Better,” a buoyant house single featuring British singer Manta and an exuberant contribution from the U.K.’s Young Notes children’s choir. The track layers piano stabs and brass arrangements into a festival‑ready jam Nimino previewed at Electric Forest, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands.

Sam Gellaitry feat. Toro y Moi — “Curious”

Scottish producer Sam Gellaitry, following his Viewfinder mixtapes, previews his debut album Anywhere Here Is Perfect with “Curious,” a collaboration featuring Toro y Moi. The track pairs breezy, electronic textures with catchy hooks; its music video stages the duo performing the song in a karaoke‑bar setting.

Ray Volpe — Forever, Volpetron

Dubstep mainstay Ray Volpe issues his debut album Forever, Volpetron, a 16‑track barrage of heavy bass and relentless energy. Crafted over roughly 18 months, the record traverses brostep, melodic dubstep, bass house and other corners of Volpe’s sound, capturing the intensity of his studio and live work.
