Forza Horizon 6 became available to preload on Xbox and Steam on May 12, 2026. The same announcement confirmed Steam Deck Verified status at launch and optimisations for PC handhelds. The preload period ended when the game released.

Original download and storage requirements

Playground Games listed at least 135 GB of free space for Xbox Series X, 130 GB for Series S and 160 GB plus an SSD for PC. Players who had downloaded an earlier placeholder were told to check for updates so the complete files would be installed before access began.

Preloading was available to pre-order customers across Standard, Deluxe and Premium editions, as well as eligible Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members. Disc buyers could start an Xbox console download through the mobile Xbox app, although ownership was still required to launch the game.

Launch timing and Steam Deck status

Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade early access began on May 15, followed by the worldwide release on May 19. Playground Games said Forza Horizon 6 would be Verified on Steam Deck at launch and optimised for devices including the ROG Xbox Ally range.

The announcement also described cross-save across the supported Xbox, Windows PC, Steam and SteamOS versions. A compatibility badge does not guarantee an identical frame rate under every setting, and later patches can change download size or performance. Current storage, controls and Deck status should therefore be checked on the live Steam page.

A completed launch step, not a current task
