Former Rockstar Co‑Founder Dan Houser Is Working on Two Games with Absurd Ventures

Dan Houser, co‑founder of Rockstar, has revealed that he is currently developing two new video games. In a recent interview he was asked about his creative plans.

Houser explained that the first title takes place in a comedic universe called Absurdaverse and will be an open-world, third-person experience driven by humorous gameplay. The second project, A Better Paradise, is a third-person dystopian tale — a kind of unsettling, chaotic dystopia. Both games are still in the early stages of development.

He stressed that he does not intend to build games that compete with GTA; rather, he wants to pursue concepts that wouldn’t fit within Rockstar’s established universe. Absurdaverse remains the more mysterious of the two — the company’s website notes that the first characters will be revealed there and promises further details later about animation initiatives and a narrative comedy-action project.

A Better Paradise has already spawned a successful podcast, and a printed novel is scheduled for release in October. The game centers on the failed creation of a digital game world overseen by Dr. Mark Tyburn: the software produces unexpected results, the development team falls apart, the project is abandoned, and the virtual world — along with an emergent superintelligence — slips into dormancy.
