Former Far Cry Creator Admits Dying Light: The Beast Has One Major Advantage Over Ubisoft’s Franchise
Nathan Lemmer is a veteran developer who leveraged his Ubisoft experience while contributing to Techland’s latest release, Dying Light: The Beast. In an interview he claimed the Polish studio’s title affords players greater freedom than the Far Cry series.
Lemmer explained that both Dying Light and Far Cry adopt a so‑called “360-degree” design: when a player faces danger they can decide to stand and fight, run away, or vanish into the shadows.
He added that Dying Light: The Beast often signals that a covert retreat from zombies is the most prudent option. Even then, players still have alternative tools — such as generators fitted with UV lamps — which open up different ways to resolve encounters.
The developer noted he absorbed much of this thinking while working on Far Cry: New Dawn, and he believes the Dying Light franchise implements the approach even more skillfully than Ubisoft’s own series.
As for Far Cry, the series’ future is still unclear. Rumors claim the next entry may introduce an unusual mechanic: a main campaign bound by a time limit.
