Surely you didn’t think the Foo Fighters would play it straight for their cover of the Bee Gees‘ disco classic “You Should Be Dancing?” Well, the joke’s on you. The rock icons known for their love of dressing up for videos surprisingly keep things pretty rock and roll in the first visual from their Gibb-centric side project, The Dee Gees.
In the performance visual that dropped on Sunday (July 11), Dave Grohl and company are fully locked into the booty-shaking 1976 groove of the song that will appear on their upcoming covers album, Hail Satin. And while the band’s singer/guitarist is wearing rock garb, he hits singer Barry Gibb’s signature falsetto notes like a boss on the cover that adds some crunchy guitars and a thumping funk bassline.
The Satin EP will contain covers of five Brothers Gibb classics, including “Night Fever,” “More Than a Woman,” “Tragedy” and Andy Gibb’s “Shadow Dancing.” And, of course, the Foos being the Foos, there is plenty of retro chic Dee Gees merch for sale in their official store, including throwback baseball t-shirts, mirrored shades, turntable slipmats, ashtrays and a super groovy mirror.
On July 17, the last day of Record Store Day 2021‘s two-day “drops,” the Foo Fighters will exclusively drop Hail Satin under their disco alter ego. Hail Satin will be divided into two parts: the first side featuring covers of Bee Gees classics and the B-side including live versions of five songs from their 10th album, Medicine at Midnight, which earned the group its fifth No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums chart.
