Foo Fighters Extend Rock & Alternative Airplay No. 1 Record With ‘Making a Fire’

Foo Fighters extend their record for the most leaders on Billboard‘s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, as “Making a Fire” ignites from No. 3 to No. 1 on the survey dated Aug. 28.

In the Aug. 16-22 tracking period, “Fire” earned 5.6 million audience impressions, up 10%, according to MRC Data.

The Dave Grohl-led band boasts nine No. 1s on Rock & Alternative Airplay, which began in 2009. Cage the Elephant, Green Day and twenty one pilots are the next-closest acts on the all-time rulers list with six apiece.

Foo Fighters’ last three Rock & Alternative Airplay entries have reached No. 1, all from the band’s most recent album, Medicine at Midnight. “Shame Shame” crowned the tally for 11 weeks starting in November 2020, followed by “Waiting on a War” (six weeks beginning this March).

Concurrently, “Fire” gains on the three spins-based Billboard rock radio charts. It lifts 6-3 on Mainstream Rock Airplay, 6-5 on Adult Alternative Airplay and 15-13 on Alternative Airplay, all new highs. “Fire” also bullets at No. 3 on Hot Hard Rock Songs, its third week in a row at the rank. In addition to its radio airplay, it earned 192,000 streams.

Medicine at Midnight debuted at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums, Alternative Albums and Hard Rock Albums.
