Florence Welch Lost a Fallopian Tube After an Ectopic Pregnancy and Miscarriage — “My Doctor’s Insistence Saved My Life”

Florence Welch has publicly recounted a traumatic medical emergency from summer 2023 that resulted in a miscarriage and the loss of one of her fallopian tubes. In a long-form profile published on September 27, 2025, the singer said she became pregnant soon after trying with her partner, but the pregnancy was ectopic and ultimately life-threatening.

Welch described the experience as a sudden passage between extremes: the proximity to both new life and mortal danger. She explained that she was due to play a festival in Cornwall when symptoms worsened, and despite heavy bleeding and intense pain she initially went onstage after taking painkillers. It was only after her physician insisted she get scanned that she learned a fallopian tube had ruptured and required emergency surgery.

At the hospital, doctors found a significant internal bleed; surgeons were unable to save the affected tube. Welch credited her doctor’s persistence with saving her life, saying she might not have sought care had she trusted her own judgment that she could “cope” after the show.

Medical authorities explain that an ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most often in a fallopian tube. The project also arrives after Welch’s collaboration with Taylor Swift on the track “Florida!!!,” which appeared on Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department. Welch described performing that song with Swift on the Eras Tour as an exhilarating experience and a reminder that, despite the isolating aspects of fame, there are moments that reaffirm why she performs—while also prompting her to reconsider certain priorities moving forward.
