Tainy & Yandel, “Deja Vu” (Neon 16/Y Entertainment)
A certified slam-dunk hit, Tainy and Yandel don’t disappoint with “Deja Vu,” a reggaeton anthem that previews the pair’s first-ever upcoming joint album titled Dynasty. Two major forces in the genre, it’s not the first time the Puerto Rican artists team up. “Deja Vu” joins a long list of collaborations between Tainy and Yandel including “Pam Pam,” “Noche de Sexo,” and “Sensación” that they’ve released over the past 16 years. Produced by Tainy with Yandel on vocals, “Deja Vu” premieres along with a music video directed by Elliott Muscat where Tainy and Yandel are scoring back-to-back championships as iconic basketball players. During a press conference, Yandel explains their longevity. “It’s been 16 years of a lot of work, sacrifice, winning multiple championships, that’s why I feel we’re a dynasty. What do you think, Tainy?” To this, the chart-topping producer answers, “I think we can do it one more time.” — GRISELDA FLORES
Bizarrap & Nicky Jam, “BZRP Music Sessions #41” (DALE PLAY Records)
Nicky Jam has returned to his roots in his new collaboration with Argentine producer Bizarrap. Jam is only the second Puerto Rican artist, following Eladio Carrion, to form part of Biza’s successful “music sessions.” In “BZRP Music Sessions #41,” Jam visits Biza in the studio and drops a less than 3 minute freestyle where he simply states why the “king of the flow”. “20 years and we’re still here,” “Like me, no other,” and “I started the game for the rookies,” are some of the verses he spits in both Spanish and English. The track kicks off as a rap song but transitions to a hard-hitting reggaeton with a catchy chorus that credits the producer: “Biza came through and it sounds amazing / the baby approved it and she fell in love.” With over 17 million views, “BZRP Music Sessions #41” was No. 15 on YouTube’s trending music page at time of publishing. — JESSICA ROIZ
Enrique Iglesias feat. Farruko, “Me Pasé” (Sony Music International)
In true Enrique Iglesias fashion, who’s known for dropping summer gems we didn’t know we needed, the Spanish chart-topping artist has gifted fans with a reggaeton-infused rhythmic track made for dancing titled “Me Pasé.” The Farruko-assisted song finds Iglesias asking for forgiveness after he had one too many drinks. “I went to sleep with you but woke up with someone else,” he confesses in the chorus. “Forgive me, it will never happen again.” His first single since 2019, “Me Pasé” is the first track off Iglesias’ forthcoming album set to drop in September to coincide with his North American tour with Ricky Martin, which kicks off Sept. 25. — G.F.
Paula Cendejas, Contragolpe (Warner Music Spain)
Hailing from Madrid, Paula Cendejas is easily one of Spain’s most promising pop acts. The newcomer, who gained attention through her covers on social media, has lately collaborated with Latin music’s edgiest stars including C.Tangana, Piso 21, Feid and Jesse Baéz, to name a few. Her musical proposal and crisp vocals shine on her new EP Contragolpe, home to seven gems including sultry R&B fusions (“803”), flamenco undertones (“Nada Lo Cambia”), futuristic boleros (“Diferente”) and more. A standout track is focus single “Nosotras,” a pop-reggaeton meshed with mesmerizing acoustic guitars. Contragolpe, according to Cendejas, was born after discovering herself during the pandemic. “It’s a rebellion,” she expressed in a statement. “All last year and part of this one I was in an internal struggle with myself, looking for help to feel better. All the bad things that I had inside I brought out in the form of a song.” — J.R.
J Balvin & Skrillex, “In Da Getto” (Sueños Globales/UMG Recordings)
J Balvin has made it clear that it’s #TiempoDeBalvin (Balvin‘s Time) with back-to-back releases. On the heels of the Maria Becerra-assisted “Qué Más Pues?” and “Otro Fili” with Jay Wheeler, the Colombian star now teams up with Skrillex for “In Da Getto,” a high-energy dance track that samples the 1993 hit “In De Ghetto” by David Morales and The Bad Yard Club feat Crystal Waters and Delta. Co-produced by Skrillex and Tainy, this reimagined version of the ’90s anthem marks the first collab between the EDM star and Balvin. — G.F.
