First look at Taika Waititi’s “Klara and the Sun” released

The first official images from the sci-fi drama Klara and the Sun have been released. Based on the acclaimed novel by Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro, the film stars Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams in lead roles.

The narrative follows Klara, a sophisticated Artificial Friend designed to provide companionship to children and teenagers. Through her observational perspective, she endeavors to decode the complexities of human emotion, love, and the profound nature of sacrifice. The story unfolds after Klara is purchased for a terminally ill girl, thrusting the android into the heart of a complex and strained family dynamic.

The film is helmed by director Taika Waititi, celebrated for his work on Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok. The screenplay adapts Ishiguro’s 2021 novel, which quickly ascended to become one of the most discussed works of speculative fiction in recent years.

Alongside Ortega and Adams, the ensemble cast features Natasha Lyonne, Simon Baker, and Steve Buscemi. These initial glimpses suggest that the production prioritizes intimate emotional resonance over grand-scale spectacle, focusing instead on the nuances of human connection and the evolving impact of technology on society.

Klara and the Sun is set to premiere globally on October 23, 2026.
