Fired Dragon Age: The Veilguard Writer Predicts Bleak Future for BioWare Under EA’s New Leadership

Patrick Weekes was let go in January of this year after twenty years with the company.

Former BioWare writer Patrick Weekes — who worked at the studio from 2005 until 2025 and led the narrative team on Dragon Age: The Veilguard — voiced his concerns about EA’s sale to a consortium of investors for $55 billion.

Weekes argues that the new ownership appears chiefly interested in sports — particularly football titles — and the Battlefield franchise, which could push EA to deprioritize more progressive and ambitious ideas in its projects. In that context, BioWare risks being shut down.

Some fans hold out hope that EA will divest BioWare, but many are skeptical anyone would want to buy a studio whose most recent high-profile releases were Anthem and Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
