Filming Starts for Gothic Horror ‘The Masque of the Red Death’ Starring Mikey Madison

A24 has officially commenced filming for its upcoming gothic horror feature, The Masque of the Red Death. The project stars Mikey Madison, the breakout lead of the critically acclaimed Anora.

The film is based on Edgar Allan Poe’s seminal 1842 short story of the same name. The original narrative follows the eccentric Prince Prospero, who barricades himself and his court inside a fortified abbey to escape a devastating plague sweeping the land.

While Sydney Sweeney was initially considered for the lead, the role ultimately went to Madison. Rumors suggest the actress will be taking on a dual performance, portraying twin sisters. Insiders have noted that the production aims to be highly provocative, with a visual style poised to spark viral internet discourse.

Directorial duties are being handled by Charlie Polinger (Plague). Madison is joined by a prestigious international ensemble, including Léa Seydoux (No Time to Die), Franz Rogowski (Bird), and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange).

The Masque of the Red Death is tentatively scheduled for a theatrical release no earlier than 2027.
