Director Michael Mann has disclosed when filming on the crime thriller sequel Heat 2 is likely to commence.
According to Mann, the picture could move into production in 2026.
“I’m looking forward to beginning principal photography in 2026. We’re in the process of finalizing the budget, scheduling shoots, and casting,” Mann said while at the Busan International Film Festival.
Heat 2 will be based on the 2022 novel of the same name by Mann and Meg Gardiner. The story will unfold both before and after the events of the original film starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
Earlier media reports put the film’s estimated budget at about $170 million. Warner Bros. will release the sequel, and Leonardo DiCaprio is among those rumored to take a role. Other names linked to the project at various times include Adam Driver, Austin Butler, Ana de Armas, Jeremy Allen White, and Channing Tatum.
