The streaming platform KION, in collaboration with Triniks Media, has officially launched production on a new four-part biographical drama titled ‘Stalin.’ Igor Mirkurbanov, known for his role in ‘The Next-to-Last Instance,’ has been cast in the titular role.
The series is written and directed by Vladimir Bortko, the acclaimed filmmaker behind ‘The Master and Margarita’ and ‘Taras Bulba.’ The plot delves into the final years of Joseph Stalin’s life, spanning from the end of the Great Patriotic War to his death in March 1953.
“We are crafting a film that is far from conventional. Over the past 30 years, so much has been said about Joseph Vissarionovich. I wouldn’t claim he was soft or kind, but he was the individual who built our nation, and we are still living off the legacy he left behind. Our goal is not to paint him as purely good or evil, but to depict the historical truth,” Bortko remarked from the set.
The ensemble cast also features Viktor Sukhorukov, Aleksandr Yatsko, Kristina Babushkina, Aleksandr Samoilenko, Pavel Chinaryov, and Anna Kovalchuk. A specific release date for ‘Stalin’ has yet to be announced.
