Faulty Fireworks Injure 17 Fans at SEVENTEEN Concert; Pledis Entertainment Apologizes

Pledis Entertainment has acknowledged responsibility after malfunctioning pyrotechnics at SEVENTEEN’s Incheon concert injured at least two attendees.

In a post on Weverse following the Sept. 13 performance at Asiad Main Stadium, the company said that some explosives used during the show’s final segment “unexpectedly fell toward the audience,” injuring several concertgoers. The Korean-language notice—translated into English—stated that a professional vendor had set safety distances and carried out inspections, but the incident was caused by a defective product. Pledis apologized to everyone who was alarmed or affected by the event.

The statement added that the two audience members confirmed to have been hurt received immediate care at the venue’s temporary clinic and later returned home. Pledis said it will provide active support for any additional medical needs those fans may require.

Officials also said they will contact ticket holders who attended that performance to check for any further injuries and to clarify the circumstances. The company reiterated its apology and promised to redouble efforts to ensure audience safety going forward.

The show in question was the opening date of SEVENTEEN’s New_ World Tour. The group performed a second concert at the same stadium the following night; the fireworks and related special effects were omitted from that performance.

After the first Incheon show, attendees shared photos and accounts online. One X user posted images of a scorched shirt and described fellow fans helping to extinguish embers on their clothing with bare hands. In reply threads, the same person said they visited a burn-specialist emergency room and were told the injury was at least a second-degree burn, with doctors advising ongoing monitoring because it might be a deep second-degree or third-degree burn.

Pledis said it will conduct a more thorough safety inspection of the tour’s special effects. The group is scheduled to play two shows in Hong Kong at the end of September, followed by U.S. dates in October and a Japan leg in November.

The tour is taking place as members WOOZI and HOSHI begin their mandatory military service—WOOZI reportedly started on Monday, Sept. 15, with HOSHI enlisting the following day—while JEONGHAN and WONWOO are already serving. Yonhap reported that WOOZI, who had adopted a military haircut, was seen among the audience at the Sunday show; he later wrote on Weverse, “Today was my first time looking from outside. I was quite happy about that.”

SEVENTEEN last released an album in May; Happy Burstday reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.
