Farruko completes a flight to his first No. 1 on Billboard’s multi-metric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Aug. 21) with “Pepas.” The song hits the top with 9.7 million U.S. streams, up 33%; 7.2 million radio airplay audience impressions, up 11%; and 2,500 downloads sold, up 25%, in the tracking week ending Aug. 12, according to MRC Data.
“Pepas” leads the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart for a third frame and Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales for the first time, also marking Farruko’s first leader on both lists.
The track by the singer-songwriter from Puerto Rico improves 6-3 on the Hot Latin Songs list. Helping spark its gains, its official video premiered Aug. 6.
“Pepas” is the fourth song to hit No. 1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs this year, following Surf Mesa’s “ily,” featuring Emilee (Jan. 2-Feb. 6; six weeks); Travis Scott and HVME’s “Goosebumps” (Feb. 13-June 19, 19 weeks); and Regard, Troye Sivan and Tate McRae’s “You” (June 26-Aug. 14, eight weeks).
Previously, Farruko charted on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with “On My Way,” with Alan Walker and Sabrina Carpenter (No. 8, 2019), and “Aire,” with Steve Aoki (No. 36, this July).
Meanwhile, Martin Garrix debuts at No. 10 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with “Love Runs Out,” featuring G-Eazy and Sasha Alex Sloan. It’s Garrix’s ninth top 10 and 40th chart hit, dating to his classic “Animals” (No. 3, 2014); only five acts have more appearances since the chart began in January 2013 (led by David Guetta with 58).
The first top 10 for G-Eazy and the second for Sloan, “Love” earned 1.8 million streams and opens at No. 23 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs.
Shifting to the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, Calvin Harris collects his 20th top 10 (only Guetta, with 30, and Rihanna, 24, have more since the chart’s August 2003 inception), as “By Your Side,” featuring Tom Grennan, who grabs his first top 10, jumps 11-6.
“Side” can be heard on multiple core-dance outlets, including at airplay leaders KMVQ-HD2 San Francisco, Music Choice’s Dance/EDM channel and KNHC (C89.5) Seattle. (The Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart measures radio airplay on a select group of full-time dance stations, along with plays during mix shows on nearly 80 top 40-formatted reporters.)
Additionally on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Dillon Francis adds his third top 10 and Shift K3Y collects its first with “Love Me Better,” featuring Marc E Bassy, who also notches his initial top 10 (22-8). Plus, Olivia Rodrigo rockets to a second top 10 with her No. 3-peaking Billboard Hot 100 hit “Deja Vu” (14-9) and both PS1 and featured singer Alex Hosking land top 10 firsts with “Life Goes On” (15-10).
