When Rihanna hit the town Wednesday (June 23) in New York with boyfriend A$AP Rocky, eagle-eyed fans noticed something was different about the singer. Specifically, they spotted that the shark tattoo that RiRi got on her ankle to match the one ex Drake has on his arm in 2016 was gone and seemingly replaced with some new, regal skin art.
In pics posted to Twitter, Rihanna’s left ankle now has a crown on it, which could be seen above the strap of her high-heeled shoes. The Navy, naturally, had thoughts, which included: “her covering it with a crown is queen s–t,” “Drake be like ‘I heard she off with a bad dude. Even covered up our matching tattoo. I need to find a hobby, cause s–t about to get rocky'” and “I know that all y’all are devastated over @rihanna covering up her tattoo…but TBH the crown is 100X better. #SorryNotSorry.”
People magazine also did a side-by-side comparison, showing the new crown on the singer’s left ankle, next to an old photo of RiRi’s shark from the tattoo parlor.
Billboard has reached out to Rihanna’s rep for comment.
Rihanna and Drizzy were an on-and-off item from 2009 to 2016, and the shark ink was reportedly inspired by a stuffed animal the rapper was holding in a photo in which he congratulated his girlfriend on the night of the 2016 MTV VMAs. Fans first spotted the shark on Rihanna’s foot in September of that year, while Drake seemed to be sporting the same image on his right forearm around the same time.
