Fans say Ciri in The Witcher season 4 looks like a copy of the CDPR game’s heroine

Netflix’s The Witcher is frequently criticized for its creative choices and deviations from canon, yet one element of the fourth season has been warmly received.

Netflix recently released the trailer for The Witcher’s fourth season, and a major talking point online has been an older-looking Ciri. Viewers say Freya Allan’s portrayal now resembles, almost exactly, the in-game Ciri from CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3.

Although the series officially draws primarily from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, fans have compared the characters to their video game designs since season one, because the visual interpretations from CD Projekt Red have become the most recognizable representations for many.

While Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt — who replaced Henry Cavill — still provokes some questions and skepticism (some viewers even joke that the new Witcher sounds like a character from Call of Duty), Ciri’s casting has been met with largely positive reactions.

A user going by @yencirilla posted a side-by-side comparison on Twitter/X showing the game and series versions of Ciri with the caption “This is insane”. The post quickly gained traction, and commenters wrote that it’s “an exact match,” “she looks just like Ciri,” that they’ll “watch the new season just because of her,” and that “at least one casting choice was spot on.”

The fourth season of The Witcher is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 30, 2025.
