With Sweden’s Way Out West festival looming and tickets completely sold out, organizers have introduced a cheeky incentive: free passes for those who register as organ donors.
Set to run from August 7–9 in Gothenburg, the 2025 lineup—highlighting Charli XCX, Chappell Roan, Pet Shop Boys, Iggy Pop, Kneecap and more—has ignited fervent demand among music fans.
In response to jokes about “trading a kidney for a ticket,” Way Out West has launched the Kidney Pass, turning hyperbole into action.
“Tickets sold out faster this year than ever,” the festival explains. “As soon as they disappeared, people started saying they’d give up anything for one—usually, ‘I’d give a kidney for a ticket.’ So we decided to make that phrase literal.”
To participate, fans simply register on the Swedish Donation Registry, which allows them to opt in to posthumous organ and tissue donation. After enrolling, they submit their confirmation to Way Out West for entry into the ticket giveaway.
Organizers emphasize that registration is non-binding: donors can set preferences for specific organs or tissues, amend their choices or withdraw entirely at any time.
Although signing up doesn’t guarantee entry—only a limited number of Kidney Passes are available—winners will receive a commemorative wristband emblazoned with “I gave a kidney for this ticket.”
