Following two acclaimed seasons on Prime Video, the production of Fallout season 3 is officially underway. Walton Goggins, who masterfully portrays both the enigmatic Ghoul and his pre-war persona, Cooper Howard, confirmed the news via Instagram. Sharing a glimpse of himself back in character, Goggins declared he is “back in the saddle” as filming commences for the next chapter of this post-apocalyptic saga.

Goggins’ update offered fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at the grueling makeup transformation required to embody the irradiated gunslinger, alongside snapshots of rugged cowboy boots and a detailed scorpion belt buckle. While he wisely steers clear of major plot leaks, both the official Fallout and Kilter Films social channels shared his post, solidifying that cameras are indeed rolling on the upcoming season.

While stars Ella Purnell (Lucy MacLean) and Aaron Moten (Maximus of the Brotherhood of Steel) have yet to comment specifically on the start of production, both are set to reprise their roles as their journeys continue to unfold in the Wasteland.

The greenlighting of a third season comes as no surprise, following Amazon’s official renewal announcement in May 2025. The production has also bolstered its ranks with several high-profile additions, including Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit). Details regarding these new characters remain under wraps for the time being.

Regarding the long-term future of the series, Moten has previously hinted that his character’s narrative arc is mapped out for five or six seasons, ensuring there is plenty of territory left to explore.

When will Fallout season 3 be released?

Although an official premiere date has yet to be finalized, the production cadence suggests a return in mid-to-late 2027, maintaining the two-year gap established between the first two seasons.

Prime Video’s adaptation has proven to be a triumph in the genre, with the first season amassing over 100 million views by October 2024 and securing 17 Emmy nominations. While the second season faced some critiques regarding its pacing, it remained a strong critical contender. As awards season approaches, all eyes are on whether the show will retain its status as a critical darling.

As production for season 3 moves forward, fans are already speculating about where Lucy and The Ghoul’s trail will lead next following the shocking revelations of the New Vegas conclusion.
