Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump Talks ‘Frenetic’ Music for ‘Spidey and His Amazing Friends’ Disney Junior Series

Patrick Stump knows he’s officially a cool dad now that he’s created all the music for the upcoming Disney Junior series Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends.

The 37-year-old Fall Out Boy singer serves as the songwriter and composer for the upcoming kids’ TV series, and he also wrote and performed the theme song, which captures the “frenetic energy” of Spidey in the webs of Stump’s musical production.

“Composing and writing all of the music for the series has been incredible because I am such a big Spidey fan,” Stump says in a new video Billboard is exclusively premiering below. “The theme song for Spidey and His Amazing Friends, you couldn’t pull me away from the studio after I recorded it because I just wanted to add more stuff. I was just so excited. There’s a certain frenetic energy to Spidey — and the webs swinging — that I just wanted to put into it. So it was all of those things sped up and made overexcited, because that’s how I was feeling.”

Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends is the first full-length Marvel series for preschoolers. As a lifelong Marvel fan and father to two young children, Stump learned to play the trombone, French horn and trumpet in order to compose the underscore of the kids’ series and assign each character a unique sound.

“The really fun ones for me were Green Goblin — I was thinking about this troll, polka-kinda feel because he’s scary but also weird. He’s a very strange villain,” Stump says. “My favorites one hands-down was Black Panther. I had to do the talking drum, I just had to reference it. It just feels like Black Panther. It’s incredible: I get to write music for all these characters that I’ve been attached to since I was a little kid.”

But when it comes to his own kids, the FOB lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist finally feels like he’s getting the “cool dad” stamp after scoring this project. “My kids are so excited, and I definitely think this is the coolest I’m ever gonna be with them,” he said, adding: “It’s a dream come true, and hopefully you can hear that in the music.”

Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends will premiere on Disney Channel and Disney Junior this Friday, Aug. 6, at 9 a.m. ET.
