Everything You Need to Know for Pokémon Go’s Lechonk Community Day

Get ready, Trainers! Pokémon Go is hosting a Lechonk Community Day on Saturday, May 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. This is your prime opportunity to add the adorable pink pig from the Paldea region to your collection.

As is customary for these events, Lechonk will be appearing in massive numbers, with a significantly boosted chance of encountering its shiny variant. Beyond the increased spawn rates, there are several exciting perks and bonuses to take advantage of—we’ve broken down everything you need to know below.

How do I catch a shiny Lechonk?

Based on long-standing community data, shiny odds during Community Day events are typically around 1 in 24. If you spend the three-hour event window actively catching, you have a high probability of securing several shiny encounters.

Keep in mind that Lechonk’s evolution, Oinkologne, exhibits distinct gender differences. You’ll want to hunt for both a male and female shiny Lechonk to complete the set.

If you’re pressed for time or running low on Poké Balls, use an Incense and quickly tap on Lechonk spawns to check for their shiny form; if it’s not shiny, simply flee and move to the next. A helpful tip: any Lechonk you have already checked will turn to face your trainer avatar, which makes it much easier to keep track of which spawns you’ve already vetted.

What exclusive move does Oinkologne learn?

If you evolve Lechonk into Oinkologne between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. local time, it will automatically learn the Fast Move Mud-Slap.

Should you miss this window, don’t panic; it will likely be available again during the grand year-end Community Day event in December. Alternatively, you can use an Elite TM to teach it the move at any time.

How does Oinkologne perform in the meta?

With its special Community Day move, the female variant of Oinkologne is quite capable in both Great League and Ultra League PvP. For the best results, equip her with Mud-Slap, Body Slam, and Trailblaze.

As for raids and gym battles (PvE), these pigs aren’t particularly viable, so you can safely skip using them for those encounters.

How to maximize your Lechonk Community Day

The following bonuses will be active for the duration of the event:

  • 1/4 Hatch Distance: For all Eggs placed in Incubators during event hours.
  • Double Catch Candy: Get twice as much candy for every Pokémon caught.
  • Increased XL Candy Chance: Trainers level 31 and up have doubled odds of earning Candy XL.
  • Extended Incense: Lasts for three full hours.
  • Extended Lure Modules: Last for one hour.
  • Photobombs: Keep an eye out for special Lechonk encounters when taking snapshots.
  • Trading Perks: One extra Special Trade is available, and trading costs are halved.

To maximize your gains, be sure to load up those Incubators and keep an Incense running throughout the event to capture as many Lechonk as possible.

Pro-tip: Mega Evolve Pidgeot, Kangaskhan, Lopunny, or Audino before you start catching to earn bonus Lechonk Candy per catch.

Finally, the event features an extended Lure Module bonus. From 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Lechonk will spawn more frequently at Lured PokéStops. Even after the primary event bonuses wrap up at 5:00 p.m., you can still hang out near active lures to continue your hunt for a shiny Lechonk.
