Emily Blunt to Return for Sicario 3
Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin are officially set to reunite for the third installment of the gritty crime thriller franchise, Sicario, as reported by Deadline.
Padraig McKinley (known for The Last Pound of Flesh) has been tapped to direct the project, with a screenplay penned by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders. Specific plot details and an official release date have yet to be disclosed.
The original Sicario debuted in 2015, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune). The film followed FBI agent Kate Macer, played by Blunt, as she was drawn into the lethal underworld of the drug trade. The movie was a critical and commercial success, grossing $85 million globally and earning three Academy Award nominations.
A sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, arrived in 2018 with Stefano Sollima taking over the director’s chair. While Brolin and del Toro reprised their roles, Blunt did not appear in the follow-up. Development for this third chapter has been underway since 2023.
Blunt’s recent projects include Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi feature The Dish and the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.
