‘Elton John has an Oscar, so Ozzy Osbourne Wants One Too’
Ozzy Osbourne Ross Halfin
There aren’t many things Ozzy Osbourne hasn’t done, but to him, one thing sticks out: winning an Academy Award.
On the latest episode of SiriusXM’s Ozzy Speaks, the 75-year-old musician revealed that he’s holding out hope for an Oscar win at some point, because after all, he wouldn’t be the first rock star to receive one.
The subject first came up when Osbourne’s cohost, Billy Morrison, asked him whether there’s an accolade he hasn’t yet achieved but wants to in the future. “Oscar,” the former Black Sabbath frontman answered immediately.
“You asked me what award I haven’t gotten,” he continued, clarifying that he wouldn’t necessarily pursue the award through acting. “No, Elton John got one for a song.”
Indeed, Sir Elton has not just one Oscar, but two, both for best original song. In 1994, he took home the prize for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” in competition with two more of his own Lion King songs, “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata.” More than two decades later, he won for “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from his own 2019 Dexter Fletcher-directed biopic Rocketman.

In the meantime, the “Crazy Train” singer is still recovering after suffering spinal injuries in a 2019 fall. In September, he revealed that the accident hasn’t swayed him from wanting to make more music, confirming to Metal Hammer that he hopes to “do one more album and then go back on the road.”
“I’d like to do a f—ing gig without falling over now,” he lamented to Morrison on the new episode.
In April, Osbourne was announced as one of several Class of 2024 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this time as a solo artist as opposed to his 2006 induction as part of Black Sabbath. The honor comes after his wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne, called out the Rock Hall in 2023 for not considering the heavy metal pioneer even though he’s been eligible as a solo artist since 2006.
“I’m more than honored,” he recently told Billboard of the recognition. “My solo career, it’s been a much larger part of my overall music career as a whole.”
