Ella Mai Talks Success of 'Boo'd Up' & Wanting to Collaborate With Kehlani: Watch

Last week, Ella Mai helped announce the nominees for the 2018 American Music Awards, alongside Bebe Rexha, Normani, Kane Brown, and Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs. Ahead of the announcement occasion, she caught up with Billboard News host Tetris Kelly to talk in regards to the success of her music “Boo’d Up,” her friendship with Kehlani and extra.

Mai, who’s nominated for 2 AMA awards — favourite feminine artist – soul/R&B and favourite music – soul/R&B — discusses the second when she realized her music “Boo’d Up” was a success, telling Billboard, “As quickly because the summer season hit and everybody began doing covers, and there have been so many movies of males singing it, that is once I was like, ‘OK, I feel that is one thing. Definitely.'”

In the interview, Mai chats about her friendship with Kehlani as nicely, noting that they are going to very doubtless collaborate sooner or later. “She took me out on tour last year, and we’re really, really good friends,” Mai says.

“We haven’t got the time to be in the studio yet,” she continues. “I think just because our schedules have been so different, she was on tour when I wasn’t, and then when she came off I was on tour, so we haven’t got around to it yet but I’m sure it will come in the future.”
