Ed Sheeran may have busted out his full-band look during his recent Late Late Show residency, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to retire his trusty one-man-band loop pedal. In a TikTok video posted on Tuesday (July 6), Sheeran gave a master class in how he uses the pedal to perform his new single, “Bad Habits.”
“So this is how I create ‘Bad Habits’ live on a loop station,” Sheeran says as he goes from full-screen to the top corner of the clip, pumping out the kick drum sound by pounding on the face of his acoustic guitar. He then adds some snare drum by strumming a hard down-stroke on his muted strings, followed by a funky bass line on keyboard and the plucked guitar riff with the song’s signature keyboard riff laid in at the end.
Sheeran scored his eighth top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart when “Bad Habits” jumped onto the tally at No. 5 after its June 25th release, marking the singer’s first charting single since “I Don’t Care” with Justin Bieber reached No. 2 in 2019.
