Inaugural American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson is throwing it back to one of former AI judge Steven Tyler‘s hits, “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” by Aerosmith, for Monday’s (May 10) Kellyoke.
Clarkson kicked off the week with a red-hot rock ‘n’ roll performance, replete with shrieking, and packing a punch every time she sang the “Dude, dude, dude, dude looks like a lady” line in the outro.
“Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” was released as the first single from Aerosmith’s ninth album, Permanent Vacation, from 1987. The song reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 4 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay tally. Tyler co-wrote the song about walking into a bar and mistaking Mötley Crüe‘s lead singer Vince Neil for a woman because of his long blond hair.
Clarkson previously covered Aerosmith’s “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” “Cryin'” and “Dream On” for Kellyoke performances in the last year. In recent days, she has taken on Coldplay’s “Yellow,” Adele’s “Send My Love (to Your New Lover),” Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros’ “Home,” and more.
