After fans received a new Kendrick Lamar verse and a third Donda listening event from Kanye West within the last few hours, it was only a matter of time before Drake barreled his way through the news cycle with some potentially breaking information. On Friday (Aug. 27), Drizzy seemingly announced the release date for his long-awaited album, Certified Lover Boy, on ESPN’s flagship program SportsCenter.
The reveal was a slick one, as he snuck in an image of a fan holding up a sign reading “CLB September 3” in-between baseball highlights. Drake’s affinity for sports runs deep, as he once hosted the 2014 ESPY’s, signifying his ties to ESPN, the self-proclaimed worldwide leader in sports.
In July, Drake announced during his appearance on Fri Yiy Friday — a Sirius XM radio show spearheaded by his OVO Team — that he finished Certified Lover Boy during his appearance. “Album’s ready … Album’s cooked, looking forward to delivering it to you. Certified Lover Boy on the way, and that’s for anyone in the way.”
With Kanye West once again not dropping his album after the latest Donda event, could he finally strike next week with Drake’s release date seemingly in the books? Last week, the two rap superstars traded shots, with Drake firing first on Trippie Redd’s new song, “Betrayal.” “All these fools I’m beefin’ that I barely know/ Forty-five, forty-four (Burned out), let it go/ Ye ain’t changin’ s— for me, it’s set in stone,” he rapped.
Ye followed up by posting Drake’s home address on Instagram before quickly deleting it.
