The day after dropping Certified Lover Boy, which features a track seemingly targeting Kanye West, Drake continued to fan the flames of their feud by leaking an unreleased Kanye/André 3000 collaboration Saturday (Sept. 4) morning on SiriusXM. Titled “Life of the Party,” the unreleased track finds ‘Ye taking shots at Drizzy during a six-minute heater that was originally previewed at a Donda event in Las Vegas on July 18 but didn’t appear on the final Donda tracklist, despite its 108-minute runtime.
“I put Virgil and Drake on the same text and it wasn’t about the matching Arc’teryx or Kid Cudi dress / Just told these grown men stop it with the funny shit,” Kanye says on his verse, referencing designer Virgil Abloh and the pre-pandemic fashion moment when Drake and Abloh posed together wearing the same camouflage Arc’teryx jackets. “Thought we was the new Abu Dhabi / Told Drake don’t play with me on GD and he sent that message to everybody / So if I hit you with a WYD, you better hit me with, ‘Yessir, I’m writing everything you need.'” For his part, the OutKast rapper’s verse steers clear of the beef, instead touching on the loss of his mother, who passed away in 2013.
The leaked diss track aimed at Drake hits the Internet one day after Drizzy returned fire on his new album Certified Lover Boy. On “7am on Bridle Path,” Drake rapped, “Get that address to your driver, make it your destination / instead of just a post out of desperation,” seemingly referencing the incident when West shared Drake’s Toronto address on social media. The same day he leaked “Life of the Party” on SiriusXM, Drake posted about “waste removal” on Instagram.
Beef aside, both Kanye and Drake are breaking records as of late, with Donda setting Apple Music’s 2021 record for highest first-day streams last week, and Certified Lover Boy recently setting Apple Music’s all-time record for highest streams in a single day. Donda will debut on Sunday’s (Sept. 5) Billboard 200.
