Dolly Parton Teams Up With James Patterson for Her First Novel, Plus a Companion Album

Dolly Parton is adding author to her long list of achievements: The singer announced Wednesday (Aug. 11) that she co-wrote a novel with best-selling author James Patterson titled Run Rose Run.

Run Rose Run is “a new thriller about a young singer/songwriter on the rise and on the run…and determined to do whatever it takes to survive!” Patterson — who’s behind the Alex Cross series and other blockbuster books — wrote on Twitter while announcing his partnership with “America’s most beloved superstar.” The book is 448 pages long, according to its website, and follows the journey of the aspiring artist as she moves to Nashville to pursue her dream of becoming a star while hoping her dark past doesn’t catch up to her.

People reports that Run Rose Run will be published by Little, Brown and Company on March 7, 2022. A companion album of the same title will be released simultaneously, featuring 12 original songs inspired by the book that Parton wrote, performed and produced. The Run Rose Run LP will be released on Parton’s Butterfly Records in partnership with another to-be-determined label.

“All new songs were written based on the characters and situations in the book. I hope you enjoy the book and the songs as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it all together!” Parton told People in a statement.

Adds Peterson: “The mind-blowing thing about this project is that reading the novel is enhanced by listening to the album and vice versa. It’s a really unique experience that I know readers (and listeners) will love.”
