Doja Cat Discusses Exes ‘Love-Bombing’ Her and Working with Jack Antonoff on ‘Vie’

Doja Cat is exploring bold new territory on her forthcoming album Vie, teaming up with acclaimed producer Jack Antonoff for the first time and tackling lyrical themes she’s never addressed before—like the pitfalls of “love-bombing.”

In a conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 published August 22, the hip-hop sensation described how liberating it was to adopt fresh creative approaches on Vie, which arrives next month following a period of deep self-reflection.

“Collaborating with Jack has been an absolute joy,” she told Lowe. “Blending personal storytelling with building a new artistic partnership felt surprisingly seamless.”

Throughout the record, Doja stretches her vocals in novel ways—experimenting with unconventional inflections and even letting out playful shrieks that bring a raw, spontaneous energy to the songs.

Previously, Doja revealed that Vie would lean heavily into pop sensibilities, making Antonoff—a hitmaker behind pop juggernauts like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter—a perfect match. While crafting the album, the Los Angeles native also immersed herself in therapy, reevaluating past romances and the influence they’ve had on her.

“Some relationships prompted me to rethink my own patterns,” the Grammy winner explained. “Naïveté threads through this project—I dive into the rush of new love and the seductive trap of excessive praise and gifts right off the bat.”

Today, Doja unveiled the lead single “Jealous Type,” offering a first glimpse of the album’s vibrant soundscape ahead of its September 26 release date.
