Director of the new Star Wars film revealed

Jon Watts, best known for helming the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man trilogy, is set to take the reins of the next Star Wars feature film. The director has officially joined a new trilogy being penned by Simon Kinberg for Lucasfilm, with Watts slated to direct the opening installment. However, the studio has yet to provide a formal confirmation of this appointment.

Kinberg’s project has been in active development since 2024 and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is envisioned as a continuation of the core Star Wars saga. Initial reports suggested the trilogy might serve as a follow-up to the events of The Rise of Skywalker. While there is speculation regarding the return of Daisy Ridley’s Rey, specific details remain under wraps. At present, the film’s official title, plot synopsis, and release date have not been disclosed.

This venture marks a return to the galaxy far, far away for Watts, who previously co-created the Disney+ series Skeleton Crew alongside screenwriter Christopher Ford.
