DICE Will Co-Create Battlefield 7 with Players — The Studio’s New Strategy
DICE will keep using the Battlefield Labs system, which proved extremely useful during the development of Battlefield 6. The studio confirmed that the same community-driven collaboration model will be applied to future projects, including Battlefield 7.
Battlefield Labs is a closed testing platform where players are granted early access to new mechanics and provide feedback used to adjust the game while it’s still being developed. The team says working through Labs feels like “surgery on a living organism.”
In an interview, producer Nika Bender and project director Salim Fasahat outlined the studio’s new philosophy:
“By the time a game is released, feedback often comes too late. BF Labs lets us collect player input during development, when meaningful changes can still be made.”
Fasahat added that Labs has become a central part of their process:
“We rigorously test weapons and balance metrics like time-to-kill and time-to-death — all of this goes through Battlefield Labs.”
According to Bender, player opinion now forms the basis of the studio’s decisions:
“The community has become the unofficial cornerstone of our process.”
Battlefield 6 launched on October 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
