Deadline reports that Martin Scorsese is developing a new film: an adaptation of Peter Cameron’s novel What Happens at Night.
The picture will feature Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the leading roles. The story follows a couple who travel to a snowy European town to adopt an infant. They take refuge in an imposing, partly abandoned hotel inhabited by a cast of eccentric characters — and, influenced by their surroundings, the couple’s life is irrevocably altered.
The film is being produced by Apple Original Films and Studiocanal, with principal photography scheduled to begin in January 2026. The novel has been adapted for the screen by Patrick Marber (Notes on a Scandal).
What Happens at Night will mark the seventh feature collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese. DiCaprio and Lawrence previously appeared together in the satirical comedy Don’t Look Up.
