Developers of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Are Preparing a New Game — It Might Not Be an RPG
Guillaume Brosh, creative director of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, said that Sandfall Interactive’s next title may not be an RPG. He stressed that the studio doesn’t want to confine the team to a single genre, visual approach, or storytelling method.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 became one of 2025’s standout indie successes, moving more than five million copies and winning broad critical praise — many reviewers even named it a contender for Game of the Year.
After such a triumph, fans naturally expected an announcement for a direct sequel, and Sandfall has dropped hints in that direction. Yet, according to Brosh, the studio’s next project could take a very different path.
“We don’t want to be tied to one particular story, visual style, or gameplay in what we do next,” he explained in an interview with The Washington Post.
He added that the forthcoming Sandfall project will be genuine and made with care, while the team wants to preserve the freedom to choose its form and genre. Brosh didn’t rule out the possibility that the next game could still be an RPG, but emphasized that nothing is set in stone.
