Destiny 2’s Steam Player Count Plummets to Record Low

Many are skeptical that Renegades will reignite the community’s interest in the shooter.

Data from Steam Charts indicate that Destiny 2 has reached its lowest player numbers on the platform since its 2019 launch. At the time this report was published, the average monthly player count was 18,349, and over the past 30 days that figure has slipped to 18,100. By comparison, peak concurrent players between September and October 2024 were roughly 54,000.

Bungie’s situation remains difficult: the studio is still feeling the repercussions of the Marathon plagiarism controversy and large-scale layoffs. Much of the company’s future now rests on whether Marathon succeeds.
