Demi Lovato Congratulates Selena Gomez on Engagement to Benny Blanco: “I Just Wish Her the Best”

From sharing scenes on Barney & Friends as children to moving forward into adulthood with their own relationships, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato have navigated a lengthy and often public friendship.

Speaking on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on the night of Sept. 16, Lovato praised Gomez’s recent work and personal news. When asked whether she’d heard Gomez’s collaborative project with fiancé Benny Blanco, I Said I Love You First, Lovato said she had listened and enjoyed it.

She singled out the track “Bluest Flame” as a standout, calling it a favorite of hers.

Lovato also expressed genuine happiness about Gomez’s engagement to Blanco, saying she was thrilled for her former costar and wishing her well as she prepares for marriage.

The pair’s relationship stretches back more than twenty years — they first met as children on Barney before later co-starring in the Disney Channel film Princess Protection Program. Their friendship has weathered ups and downs, including periods of distance tied to personal conflicts and public statements in the 2010s.

After reconciling following Lovato’s treatment in 2011, the two again spent time apart, but in recent years they’ve publicly supported each other’s creative efforts, suggesting that past disagreements have largely been resolved.

While Gomez prepares to become a bride, Lovato has also entered married life, tying the knot with Jordan “Jutes” Lutes in May. On WWHL, Lovato discussed collaborating with her husband — also a musician — noting he contributed to songs on 2022’s Holy Fvck and helped write a track called “In My Head” for her upcoming project.

Lovato also reflected on performing her own repertoire, saying she loves singing “Stone Cold” because it allows her to showcase her voice, whereas songs like “Solo” don’t highlight the same vocal strengths for her onstage.
