Death Stranding Director’s Cut test: best rated by the press on PS5, but not by gamers, all reviews

Death Stranding Director's Cut test: best rated by the press on PS5, but not by gamers, all reviews

It was two years ago, Hideo Kojima released his first game after the Konami era, his famous Death Stranding, developed with the help and support of PlayStation but also of the Guerrilla Games studio which had kindly lent its in-house engine, the Decima Engine. When it was released on PS4, the game divided players but also fans of the Japanese game designer, due to its rather atypical concept where it is true that we spend most of our time doing the FedEx delivery man in sets. which strangely resemble those in Iceland. With Low Roar in their ears, a band that Kojima is particularly fond of, one might think that the father of the Metal Gear Solid series has turned his trekking vacation in Iceland into a video game. But obviously, the title goes further than that, especially in its history and its words, knowing that on PS5, the title offers a lot of new features. We think of these new objects that make it easier to transport goods, the arrival of a shooting range to have fun with weapons, the possibility of facing bosses at will and many other things. .

All these additions put together allow this PS5 Director’s Cut version to get a better average on Metacritic. The game is doing indeed with 86% for 54 reviews identified, which is more than the 82% obtained in 2019 on PS4. On the other hand, we observe the opposite effect on the side of the players who had given the average rating of 7.3 / 10 on PS4 two years ago, compared to 5.8 / 10 this year on PS5. What should be understood by this sanction rating given by the players? An awareness that has had time to mature in recent years? That they find that this Director’s Cut version does not bring anything interesting to the point of sanctioning it? It’s up to you to tell us in the comments if you lean more towards the specialized press or that of the players …
