DC Studios Head Peter Safran Addresses ‘Supergirl’ Box Office Failure

The leadership of the revamped DC cinematic universe will not change their strategy following a single box office disappointment.

Supergirl earned only 68 million dollars globally during its opening weekend. Peter Safran, co-head of DC Studios, acknowledged that the studio expected higher numbers. Despite these results, he confirmed that one setback will not deter the team from their established plan.

Safran described the DCU as a marathon rather than a sprint. Several major releases remain on the schedule.

James Watkins directs the body horror film Clayface, which hits theaters on October 23, 2026. The Lanterns series will follow on HBO, and James Gunn’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow arrives on July 9, 2027.
