The family of James Van Der Beek has confirmed that the American actor has passed away at the age of 48.
His death was caused by complications arising from colorectal cancer, a diagnosis Van Der Beek had first publicly disclosed in 2024.
The actor rose to global prominence for his portrayal of the titular character, Dawson Leery, in the 1997 hit series Dawson’s Creek. In the wake of his passing, former co-stars Katie Holmes and Busy Philipps were among the first to pay tribute and offer their condolences.
Van Der Beek’s diverse career also included memorable roles in films such as Scary Movie, The Rules of Attraction, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Labor Day, as well as television appearances in Pose and Teacup.
