Dan + Shay, the duo of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, score their eighth leader on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart as “Glad You Exist” ascends 3-1 on the list dated Aug. 21. In the week ending Aug. 15, the song gained by 4% to 29.9 million impressions, according to MRC Data.
“Glad,” which Dan + Shay wrote with Ryan Lewis, Tayla Parx and Jordan Reynolds, is the pair’s eighth Country Airplay No. 1, among nine top 10s. The track is from Dan + Shay’s fourth full-length, Good Things, released Aug. 13 and due on Billboard‘s Aug. 28-dated charts.
“This song is a message of gratitude to everyone in our lives, and we’re truly grateful to see it at the top of the chart,” Dan + Shay shared in a statement to Billboard. “There is nothing quite like the feeling of having a No. 1 song, and we couldn’t think of a better time to celebrate it than the week of our album release. Thank you, fans and country radio … we’re glad you exist!”
“Glad” follows the pair’s “I Should Probably Go to Bed,” which reached No. 2 on Country Airplay in January. The act had last led with “10,000 Hours,” with Justin Bieber, for two weeks in January and February 2020.
Dan + Shay first topped Country Airplay with “Nothin’ Like You,” for a week in December 2015, followed by “From the Ground Up” (one week, September 2016); “How Not To” (one week, July 2017); “Tequila” (two weeks, July 2018); “Speechless” (four weeks, December 2018-January 2019); and “All to Myself” (one, August 2019).
The duo first charted on Country Airplay with freshman single “19 You + Me,” which reached No. 11 in April 2014.
On Hot Country Songs, which blends airplay, sales and streaming data, “Glad” bumps 4-2 for a new high. In the week ending Aug. 12, the track corralled 8.4 million U.S. streams and sold 1,300 downloads.
Plus, Dan + Shay’s newest single, “Steal My Love,” released on Good Things, received hourly plays on participating iHeartMedia stations Aug. 13, and arrives on Country Airplay at No. 35 (3.7 million impressions) following its first three days of availability.
