DaBaby’s ‘Rockstar’ Wins Top Rap Song at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards

DaBaby‘s “Rockstar” featuring Roddy Ricch won top rap song at Sunday’s 2021 Billboard Music Awards. The single spent seven weeks at no. 1 on the Hot 100.

DaBaby accepted the award in a green and pink ensemble, his fingers covered in glistening rings with bracelets and a chain to match, and a fedora atop his head. Upon his arrival onstage, he asked fans in the audience how he looked holding the esteemed award, and was met with a rising crescendo of cheers. During his speech, DaBaby reflected on “having the balls” to put out an album during the height of the pandemic. “It’s nothing short of a blessing,” he said. “If y’all don’t press play, the music don’t get heard.”

The Charlotte, N.C., rapper was a finalist for eight awards on Sunday night. He also took home the award for top streaming song for “Rockstar.” The award was given by producer, Swizz Beatz, who paid tribute to late rapper DMX. “He loved others before he loved himself,” he said, of the late rapper. Swizz also announced DMX’s posthumous album Exodus, dropping this Friday.
