Crimson Desert is finally making its other playable characters more interesting

Pearl Abyss has released a substantial update for Crimson Desert, fulfilling a key commitment to bolster the roles of Damiane and Oongka. This patch significantly broadens the customization options for both characters while finally unlocking their ability to venture into the Abyss.

At its launch this past March, Crimson Desert placed primary emphasis on Kliff. While players eventually gained the ability to command both Damiane and Oongka, the duo often felt underdeveloped compared to the protagonist. They were restricted from specific world zones, featured fewer cosmetic choices, and lacked the versatile utility Kliff enjoyed. In response to community feedback and their June development roadmap, Pearl Abyss pledged to refine the gameplay experience for Damiane and Oongka, ensuring all three protagonists receive an equitable share of the spotlight.

Patch 1.13 delivers on these promises. Oongka receives a major cosmetic overhaul, gaining access to 39 new pieces of equipment, including most of the outfits previously exclusive to Kliff. Damiane is also getting a glow-up, with the ability to don armor sets modeled after formidable bosses such as the Odeck, Dark Marksman, and Masked Liberator, alongside eight additional armor pieces.

Perhaps most importantly, both characters can now traverse the Abyss. This long-requested feature opens up vast areas of the map that were once off-limits to them. Furthermore, the memory fragments within the Abyss have been repositioned, providing a fresh incentive for players to revisit these encounters and challenge bosses anew.

Beyond these character-specific enhancements, the update introduces several quality-of-life improvements, including the ability for pets to rest alongside the player and a new setting that allows for the removal of the minimap and HUD for a more immersive experience. Patch 1.13 is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. The full list of changes follows below.
