Courtney Barnett Sets New Album ‘Things Take Time, Take Time,’ North America Tour

Things take time, and Courtney Barnett has put her valuable time to good use.

The celebrated singer and songwriter on Wednesday (July 7) announces her forthcoming third solo album, Things Take Time, Take Time, led by the new track “Rae Street.”

Spanning 10 tracks, the LP was penned over two years and recorded towards the end of 2020 and early 2021 between Sydney and Melbourne with producer and drummer Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint, Cate le Bon, Kurt Vile).

“Rae Street” is quintessential Barnett, a mid-tempo examination of the world moving around Barnett, and it’s accompanied with a musical video featuring multiple Courtneys settling into suburban life.

The followup to 2018’s Tell Me How You Really Feel, the new record will drop Nov. 12 on Mom+Pop Music / Marathon Artists in North America, and in her homeland via Barnett’s own, Melbourne-based indie Milk! Records (with distribution through Remote Control Records), a two-time winner of best independent label at the AIR Awards.

Thing Take Time is her most “intimate record to date,” its tracks “dealing unabashedly with love, renewal, healing and self-discovery,” reads the blurb from Mom+Pop.

Barnett’s star rose with her debut 2015 album LP Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, which cracked the Top 20 on both sides of the Atlantic, won the Australian Music Prize and Triple J’s prestigious J award for album of the year, and bagged APRA, ARIA and AIR Awards. The indie champion was also nominated for the best new artist at the Grammy Awards, losing out to Meghan Trainor.

A collaborative album with Kurt Vile, 2017s Lotta Sea Lice, was a critical and commercial success. Her sophomore solo effort Tell Me How You Really Feel impacted the Top 10 in the U.K. and Australia and peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Barnett will support the new album with a North American tour, kicking off Nov. 29 at Las Vegas’ Brooklyn Bowl.
