Chris Martin Fakes ‘Security Checks’ Before Marriage Proposal at London Concert

Chris Martin has adopted a more vigilant stance toward the band’s onstage proposal moments.

At Coldplay’s August 22 concert at London’s Wembley Stadium, the frontman played both cupid and comedic security officer to facilitate a surprise marriage proposal.

Before allowing the heartfelt scene to unfold, he paused the show for humorous “security screenings,” a clear nod to a recent viral mishap.

In fan-captured TikTok footage (watch here), Martin spots a sign reading “I want to propose,” complete with an arrow pointing at the woman beside the hopeful suitor. He then initiates his mock interrogation.

“All right, brother, nod if you’re ready for basic security questions. Is this person your partner? Yes? Anyone else’s partner? Are you siblings or cousins? Any AI among you? Actual humans? Excellent—let’s proceed.”

He then broke into song: “My beautiful brother, here’s some free advice: as we all watch you go down, I advise you to get down on one knee.”

Encouraged by roaring applause, the man knelt and proposed. When she said yes, they shared a kiss. “Congratulations, my brother and sister,” Martin cheered. “What a lovely couple. On a day like this, I encourage you to kiss and be happy together forever.”

This lighthearted interlude follows a more contentious kiss-cam moment at Boston’s Gillette Stadium in mid-July, when Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR executive Kristin Cabot—both married to other people—were caught embracing on the big screen.

Martin joked that they might be having an affair, a remark that turned out to be accurate. The clip went viral, leading to Byron’s resignation and a tongue-in-cheek PR twist in which Gwyneth Paltrow served as Astronomer’s interim spokesperson.
