Ahead of its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on September 6, the inaugural trailer for 100 Nights of Hero has been unveiled. Charli XCX makes her feature-film debut alongside Maika Monroe, Emma Corrin, Nicholas Galitzine, Felicity Jones and Richard E. Grant. Julia Jackman (Pigs, Bonus Track) directs this historical fantasy, which arrives in U.S. cinemas on December 5; a U.K. release date is forthcoming.
Inspired by Isabel Greenberg’s graphic novel—rooted in the classic One Thousand and One Nights—the story unfolds when a charismatic stranger (Galitzine) appears at a remote castle, unsettling the tenuous balance between a negligent husband, his innocent bride Cherry (Monroe), and their devoted maid Hero (Corrin). The teaser, embedded below, juxtaposes Galitzine brandishing a stag’s head with Charli XCX playing a medieval lute beneath a weeping willow.
Earlier this year, Charli XCX appeared in Amazon Prime Video’s Overcompensating, also serving as executive producer on the series and its soundtrack. She next stars in Erupcja, co-written by XCX, which will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 4 alongside her thriller Victim.
Also on the TIFF slate is Romain Gavras’s satirical action feature Sacrifice, where Charli joins the cast in an undisclosed role. Upcoming projects include the thrillers The Gallerist and I Want Your Sex, plus The Moment, a pop-star mockumentary produced by her new studio, Studio365.
In June, she headlined The Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival, delivering what Billboard U.K. lauded as “an emotive triumph of pop hedonism and poignant intimacy.” That same month marked the one-year anniversary of her sixth album, Brat, the record that propelled her into global stardom.
