Carrie Underwood helped Needtobreathe preview their upcoming album Into the Mystery (out July 30) in style on Thursday morning (May 20). The country superstar lends her vocals to the North Carolina-bred Christian country rock band’s urgent new single “I Wanna Remember,” and she appears in the moody video as well.
“‘I Wanna Remember’ is a nostalgic track and takes you back to the moments you never want to forget. We all came from small towns, and those roots have cemented into the fabric of the band and our music,” the band said in a statement. “[Singer] Bear [Rinehart] worked with Carrie on some of her recent projects, and we felt like her small-town roots and humble beginnings were the perfect addition to this song. As soon as we got into the studio, we felt a connection with her as if she was a long time member of the band. Having someone with her talent and spirit sing on the song is an absolute honor for us.”
Underwood said she’s been a huge fan of the band for a long time, and was “so honored when the stars aligned and Bear agreed to lend his incredible vocals to a song on my recent gospel album. … Needless to say, I was thrilled when he and the band invited me to be a part of their new project. I love the song and have had the best time getting to know and sing with these amazingly talented guys.”
On the song, Underwood sings,”The night is clear/ All of the stars out in the atmosphere/ Wishing that they were you and me right here/ They’re showing off for us/ I don’t wanna forget it,” before joining forces on the chorus with singer Rinehart.
The song will appear on the band’s upcoming eighth album, which will also feature collabs with Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman and Natalie Hemby of The Highwomen. The 12-track album’s title song was released earlier this month, along with a teaser for a documentary about the sessions. The band will hit the road this fall for a 38-city tour with Switchfoot and The New Respects.
The visual features a couple having a late-night adventure as they stroll the city, play pool, hang out on a roof and breathe in the sweet smell of a night they’ll never forget. Watch “I Wanna Remember” and see the album’s track list below.
