BTS whipped up their new single “Butter” and got it out to fans on Friday (May 21).
In a press release, the K-pop group described “Butter” as “a dance pop track brimming with the smooth yet charismatic charm of BTS.” It’s the group’s second English-language single, following their career-first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 smash “Dynamite” from 2020.
The single’s official teaser from earlier this week featured a funky beat reminiscent of Queen‘s “Another One Bites the Dust.” “Are you ready hey are you ready for this…,” the veteran British rockers cheekily wrote in response to the teaser along with the message “Another One Bites The Dust x #BTS_Butter,” accompanied by a GIF of late frontman Freddie Mercury singing the Hot 100 No. 1 hit from 1980.
And it gets sweeter: BTS are bringing the debut TV performance of “Butter” to the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, which will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 23, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC, with Nick Jonas hosting.
